Dubai Mall, the emirate's largest mall and the world's biggest shopping centre by total area, claimed the top spot in a new list of the healthiest mall brands in the UAE, according to YouGov BrandIndex.
In the first-ever global brand health rankings released by YouGov BrandIndex, the Emaar mall led the ranking with a score of 36.8, compared to second placed Mall of the Emirates at 33.4. City Centre Deira took third position with a score of 25.7.
"In a fairly cluttered retail market, both Emaar's Dubai Mall and Majid Al Futtaim's Mall of the Emirates stand well apart from the competition as the UAE's premiere shopping and leisure destinations" said Scott Booth, YouGov's Head of Data Products in MENA. "While Dubai Mall has benefitted from continual development of the Dubai Downtown district, Mall of the Emirates unveiled a major expansion in 2015 that continues to narrow the gap between the UAE's top malls."
The ranking assesses the malls over the past 12 months based on their overall brand health. It takes into account perceptions of a brand's quality, value, impression, satisfaction, reputation and whether consumers would recommend the brand to others.
Emaar also came out on top in the ranking of the UAE's strongest real estate brand with an overall score of 38.8. It led brand by some margin ahead of Damac in second place with a score of 18.7 and Nakheel in third with 14.9.
"The Emaar name in UAE real estate carries a perception of high quality and a powerfully positive reputation among consumers, as evidenced by ratings from thousands of BrandIndex respondents over the past 12 months," said Mr Booth. "Emaar's ongoing developments in the Downtown Dubai district as well as the company's involvement in the Dubai Creek Harbour development and other high profile projects have kept it in the public eye, helping the brand to dominate the UAE real estate sector."
Meanwhile Emirates NBD, Dubai's biggest bank by assets, came out as the leading retail bank while Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts was the leading hospitality brand.
