Ooredoo Oman, a top telecom provider, has partnered with Al Roya Press and Publishing to launch a digital literacy programme which will empower more than 900 women with essential IT skills.
Backed by Ooredoo's team of technical experts, the initiative will include 30 training sessions in nine Wilayats to help nurture the digital lifestyle benefits provided by smartphones, e-government services, and other personal electronic devices.
The training sessions will be organised in Barka, Al Mussanah, and Al Suwaiq from December 10 to 14, followed by seminars in Al Khaburah, Saham, Sohar, Shinas, Liwa, and Al Rustaq. Inspired by the company's dedication to championing human growth, participants will learn how to leverage the full potential of the internet, discovering the benefits of smartphone technology, how to filter online content to protect children from spam and maximise the digital landscape for educational purposes.
As well as involving members of the local community, graduates of the company's incubator programmes will also participate to further their knowledge of the digital world and take their IT skills to the next level.
Raed Dawood, director of Government Relations and Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo said: "Whether someone is totally new to IT or has some experience, these courses will help them develop a thorough understanding of the digital world and how it can be used to enhance employability as well as their quality of life. Each session will equip attendees with the expertise to use the internet fully and with confidence, stay safe online, use technology to complement their daily lives, and consider careers where they can put their newfound knowledge to use."
"As the Sultanate's data experience leaders, we are always looking for ways to deliver fun and educational experiences that connect and empower the people of Oman through technology. Our strategy, which aims to use the digital landscape to enhance the lives of our customers, is helping transform the way we communicate, conduct business, and support the nation's goal of becoming a knowledge-based society. To that end, we look forward to continuing our investments in building human resource capacities and extending the benefits of the online world to all," he added.
