UNDER the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) is participating in "Souq Okaz" festival at its 11th session in 2017, which kicked off on Wednesday in Taif, in the presence of a number of princes, ministers, and an elite group of intellectuals, thinkers and media professionals from inside and outside the Kingdom.
"The company's support for the activities of Souq Okaz, as one of the most important cultural events in the Arab world in recent years, comes as it joins success partners in the festivals and within its efforts to support all national bodies to present the best image of culture and national heritage especially in such a cultural and historical festival," said Eng. Abdel Moen bin Hassan Al-Sheikh, head of the western sector at SEC.
"The Saudi Electricity Company has consistently supported Souq Okaz since its first session 10 years ago. The total cost of electrical service during these years exceeded 22 million riyals, while the total capacity was about 10.6 megawatts till 2016 with 10 independent ground transformers, while the length of the feeding network reached 35 km, with the provision of various backup sources to be used during emergencies."
"This year, thank God, all the overhead networks within Souq Okaz market have been converted into underground networks, in addition to the installation of various electrical sources for all events and exhibitions. Twenty specialized engineering and technical teams have been deployed; and all networks were surveyed and maintained according to the highest standards of electrical safety," he said.
A number of officials and visitors to Souq Okaz have praised the role of the Saudi Electricity Company in the success of the festival activities. Many guests commended the young national talents of engineers and technicians and the quick response of the support and operations teams based in the Souq to guarantee stabilization of the electrical service; as well as the ability of these young talents to meet the growing demand for electricity in more than one location at the Souq.
